Austin Collum, CSD Alum 2017

Following graduation in 2017, I accepted a clinical fellowship at Lakeshore Professional Voice Center in Detroit, Michigan, where I worked alongside Dr. Adam Rubin and Juliano Codino, PhD, CCC-SLP in an interprofessional, private practice. During my fellowship, I gained specialized training in acoustic analysis, aerodynamic assessment, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, and rigid and flexible videostroboscopy.

Once my fellowship was completed, I moved to Orlando, Florida, where I currently work at the Center for Voice Care and Swallowing Disorders at the Ear, Nose, Throat, and Plastic Surgery Associates. In my current role, I serve as a singing voice specialist, but also work with the entire spectrum of voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders. In addition to my clinical work, I collaborate with our speech-language pathologists and physicians on various publications and presentations at the state and national level.

My education at UNCG provided me with a multitude of opportunities. The faculty worked alongside me to provide individualized experiences catered to my aspirations as a clinician. During my externships, the faculty aided in helping me secure voice-specialized placements at Wake Forest Baptist Voice and Swallowing Center and The University of Southern California Voice Center.

The faculty also connected me with the school of music while in Greensboro, allowing me to combine my passions of voice, music, and speech-language pathology. I am forever grateful to UNCG for providing me with these experiences that ultimately led to my current career path. The skills and experiences and mentors I gained there continue to serve me everyday as a clinician.
