Dr. Kristine Lundgren, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, co-directed a Fulbright Hays Group Project Abroad program to Shanghai China with Dr.Ye (Jane) He from the School of Education. Twelve educators from North Carolina, including 3 HHS alumni, CSD AP Professor Perry Flynn, Mike Maykish, and Mariam Abdelaziz, participated in this one-month program during the summer of 2015. The group visited elementary, middle, and high schools in Shanghai as well as two schools for children with special needs.

During their visit, the educators took Chinese language lessons and learned about Chinese culture through seminars and cultural visits in Shanghai and Beijing. The educators will use this information to help develop teaching units that will be implemented during 2015-16 in classrooms throughout North Carolina. Drs. Lundgren and He will continue to collaborate with school systems in Shanghai to provide more clinical/teaching and service learning opportunities for teachers in NC as well as undergraduate and graduate students at UNCG.
