  • Students do not receive a second degree by completing the 1-year of Prerequisite coursework listed above. A second degree would take an additional 1-3 semesters to complete and is not required by ASHA or graduate programs.
  • Prerequisite students should apply to UNCG’s MA SLP Programs while enrolled in prerequisite courses. Visit our MA SLP On-Campus and MA SLP Online program websites to learn more about our programs, the application process, and deadlines.
  • If your goal is to practice as a SLP-Assistant in North Carolina, please refer to the NCBOESLPA portal for official guidelines on navigating the registration process. Because UNCG’s do not offer clinical placements or track clinical hours, the state board is your best resource for completing these specific requirements.
ASHA requires one course in each of the following subjects to be completed before entering a graduate program in SLP:
  • Biological Science (lab not required by ASHA)
  • Social Science (i.e.; Psychology)
  • Statistics
  • Chemistry OR Physics (lab not required by ASHA)
